Eternal Youth (Batman: The Animated Series)

Original Air Date: September 16, 1992
Written by: Beth Bornstein
Directed by: Kevin Altieri

What it’s about:
Bruce Wayne is sent a strange invitation to a health spa for the weekend but has no interest and lets Alfred and his girlfriend Maggie go in his place; meanwhile, Batman investigates the disappearance of a wealthy socialite in Gotham.

My Thoughts:

This is such a downright dark episode but has light tones to it. It’s funny, as the lady is running from someone at the beginning of the episode, the way it’s shot makes you think the villain is a mystery but anyone who’s watched this show would know who it is. I love the idea of Alfred having a girlfriend and she’s got a ton of character! Maggie is a health nut who tries to get “Alfie” out of the mansion and out in the world, which is also funny because we really only think of Alfred being in the mansion, or the Batcave, assisting Bruce or cleaning up or serving food. He really gets a chance to shine in this episode and Efram Zimbalist jr. is a treasure for it. The “A” and “B” plots run together easily and quickly and it’s another incredibly disturbing plot by Poison Ivy to help plant kind and hurt mankind. I love her stories on this show; her character has kind of morphed in comics over the years where she’s closer to a hero than a villain so seeing schemes like this show her amazing potential.

Score: 9/10
