Top 5: Xmas icons

#5 Poinsettas

“If Christmas had a flower, this is it. It wasn’t until I was an adult where this flower really meant something to me as far as the holidays- we could pick one up that was used as display at work before leaving for the holidays and I always tried to grab two: one for our house and one for my grandma; she really loved these.”

#4 Lights

We primarily associate green and red as Christmas colors but with the concepts of lights, it can be just about anything. We not only decorate our trees with lights but our houses and anything else that can be found in your yard. I, personally, am a fan of the colored lights (as Nicole loves the white lights.) Whatever colors or styles you like, there really is nothing like Christmas lights to get you in the holiday spirit.”

#3 Christmas Star (Star of Bethlehem)

“Without getting too religious, in Bible lore, the Star of Bethlehem lead the Three Wise men to find Jesus’ birth; even since this story, the star has been a seminal symbol of the Christmas season. Not only for it’s religious implications, but we have come to adorn the tops of our trees with stars (some use angels) and the star has always made me think of Christmas.”

#2 Santa Claus

“The big guy of Christmas- even if it’s silly, or even commercial in some people’s eyes, you can’t even begin to associate Christmas without thinking of Saint Nick! As a child, he’s a magical person, someone you can’t even believe is real. Once you find out the truth, he doesn’t mean as much but as an adult, as a parent, he’s yet again, a huge factor in the lives of your children when it comes to Christmas. Watching him appear at the end of Macy’s Thanksgiving parade is always a highlight for my girls.”

#1 Christmas Tree

“For me, it’s the tree! Once Thanksgiving is over, the day after, I haul in the tree and all the decorations from the attic and we spend the early morning unboxing everything, putting up the tree, stringing the lights and hanging the ornaments- which are all mostly sentimental ones. Some from when Nicole and I were dating, life’s biggest moments, ones with pictures of our girls and family, and fun ornaments from characters we like, places we’ve visited, etc. Some may say our tree is full of knick-knacks, but they mean so much to us. Once that tree is up and lit, it truly feels like the holiday season has begun and Christmas is here once again.”
