Spider-Man: Return of the Sinister Six (NES)

Gamers today just don’t know…..

Nowadays, every single game out there gives you a tutorial right away on how to play the game.  If you’re playing a shooter, chances are, it will play similarly to every other shooter out there.  If you’re playing an adventure game, chances are the control scheme will match up pretty darn closely with every other similar title on the market.  Gaming is so much clearer now….

Back in the day, this wasn’t so.   You could turn on a title, say, like this game, and have no clue what to do, how to web swing or exactly how the game plays.  I turn this game on and immediately I’m thinking “How the hell is this a Spider-Man title?”  I can’t web swing, the web shooting is quick and that’s it and it’s really hard to climb walls.  It just completely highlighted what gaming used to be.  Every title was like this.  No instructions, no clue sometimes on what to do or how to do it.   This game sums that up.  Add that to the fact that most games at this point, didn’t have intelligent AI; the in-game enemies were all grade-A assholes.  Just getting to the first level boss was a pain and he was a jerk.  This game is not good.   It’s not just not good for a normal game but for a Spider-man game, where you are supposed to control this amazing individual and it just isn’t happening.

So, if you really want a challenge, try mastering this son of a bitch and you’ve got my respect!
